So I have an issue that I need some advice for. I currently have a 1 ghz powerbook with 60 gb 7200 rpm drive and 1.25 gigs of ram.. I also have a 1.5 ghz logic board that I bought to put in this machine, but it doesn't work (paid 350 for it and it wont power the lcd backlight and yes the problem is definitely on the board) so my dilemna is, should I buy another logic board (broken logic board) then take the broken logic board and the 1.5 board in to a repair shop and have them try and replace parts needed on the 1.5 board to fix it? Or should I invest the money to buy a new macbook. I want a macbook, but I have been holding out to see if they will be released with intel gma965 video. I am bitter having recieved a broken logic board that I was hoping would upgrade my machine and make it last at least another year. But, considering all the hassle I will have to go through to get it fixed, and even then, it might work, i dont know what to do. I could just probably get a macbook now, but if Im going to spend a lot of money on a new machine, I would like it to at least have a decent vid card. And gma950 has no T&L or SM3/4 support. The gma965 would have these things making it at least an acceptable card. Apple is giving me a head ache ... i want one of these things but I cant decide what to do. Someone clear my brain up for me! It's getting cloudy in here

what kind of performance do you expect from a shared video card?
950 or 965 will still be shared i dont think you will see any major improvement besides the added 15 to its name. At the end of the day it will be a integrated video shared at that..

You can read all about GMA3000 (aka GMA965) in the Intel White Paper on GMA 3000. It sounds like it will be a substantial upgrade to the current GMA950, finally rivalling the performance of low-end discrete chips.

There's no telling when Apple will upgrade the MacBook to a newer chipset. It could be in 3 months or it could be in a year and 3 months.

I'm expecting greatly increased performance, compared to the GMA 950. The difference isn't just a matter of adding 15 to 950. The 965 will have double the number of pipelines (4 to 8), about 50% faster clock speed (400 MHz to 667 MHz), and most importantly to gamers, hardware T&L and pixel shaders (some games don't run at all w/out hardware T&L). All-in-all, compared to the 950, the 965 should be pretty darn impressive.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying that the 965 will blow away discrete video cards--it'd be foolish for me to say that. I'm just saying that as an integrated solution from Intel, it's a darn good breakthrough that's been a long time coming.

It's a bit more like adding 2050 to 950 than adding 15.
