I was using a Maxtor One Touch II external drive on my Windows PC until purchasing a MacBook Pro. Now I can't get all the files to appear or access to edit them. I went back to my PC and fixed the security settings to allow everyone read/write access, but that didn't change anything once I reconnected it to my MacBook.

I realize this is more a problem with Maxtor than my Mac, but if anyone has knowledge of this problem, I'd appreciate your help. Do I need to reformat the drive for Mac use? If so, how?

You should be able to read your files, but not edit/write to the drive since OSX doesn't support writing to NTFS.

Does the drive appear in Disk Utility when plugged in?

If the drive is going to be used exclusively with your Mac, get the data off the drive and reformat it as HFS.

Yes, the drive appears as soon as it's plugged in, as do most of the files on it. I suppose reformatting makes the most sense. Thanks.
