I have an iBook with the following specs:

Hardware Overview:

Machine Name: iBook G4
Machine Model: PowerBook6,5
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 256 MB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.8.7f1
Serial Number: 4H51*******

I plan to install/upgrade the memory to 1.25GB, does my iBook(2 generation old)
support the DDR2 or DDR3, it's ok if the RAM automatically clock down the speed,
I'm just affraid that it burns my iBook.

Somebody please point out how well does iBook deal with the RAM compatibility,
which kind of DDR/DDR2/DDR3 model fit the best on iBook with the above model.
I read that DDR provide backward compatibility, so does this apply to
different model as well, say DDR and DDR2. Because DDR is far more expensive
than DDR2, and if I buy the MacBook in the future, the RAM still usable.

Correct me if I am wrong, I am new regarding all this.

The only memory that will work in that iBook (or any iBook for that matter) is plain old DDR. Not DDR2, and certainly not DDR3 (which isn't on the market quite yet). You cannot buy one RAM module and move it from an iBook to a Macbook. The backward compatibility is only for different clockrates inside the same standard. DDR 400 will work in a DDR333 machine, but DDR2 400 will not work in a DDR 400 machine.

Due to the bulk of the manufacturing capacity moving from DDR to DDR2, DDR has become more expensive than DDR2.

Have a nice day,

Sadly, need to buy the pricey RAM.

Thanks!!

All G4 iBooks are DDR. The G3 iBooks used regular old SDRAM.

Oh yes thanks for correcting me. I was thinking DDR since I am using a G4 iBook right now.
