After removing the Macbook battery and dragging out the HDD, how do you pry the HDD from the little aluminum caddy that it sits on? The HDD is held to the caddy with four black tiny screws which seem to require a screw driver with five points, rather than the plus sign ( + ) screw driver. Any suggestions?

I believe a Torx #8 driver is what's needed. Watch the video on the OWC site, the narrative calls i out if i remember right.

Thanks for the quick reply. It's easier to look for one now that I know it's called Torx.

By the way, how do I get OWC?

I'm thinking of removing the Mac HDD and cloning into a spare HDD by connecting both HDDs externally to a Windows PC. Do you think the cloned HDD would work in the Mac?

A true clone should work, but it has to be a 100% exact clone. Be careful of what software you use to do the job. I think PowerQuest's (now a Norton product) DriveImage will do the job for you.

Keep in mind that the MacBook uses a SATA drive, so you need the correct adapter in your PC to plug it into. Fortunately, notebook SATA drives use the same connectors that desktop SATA drives do, so they're pretty much interchangeable!
