Hello everybody I just bought the macbook which is my first laptop I hae ever purchased so I am curious what is the best way to conserve the battery when you are not using the laptop?
Should you keep the power cord connected to the laptop even though the laptop will be turned-off or should you disconnct the powercord to prenvent over-heating?

Why would it overheat if it's not doing anything?

Keep it plugged in.

If I leave my laptop plugged in after taking battery out is that OK? I took out my battery and the laptop felt hotter, maybe heat was coming out of the hole?

when plugged in for a substantial amount of time...its best to use your macbook unplugged. for regular use leave it in. when storing the battery keep it at around 60%. calibrate your battery every two - three weeks. those are just some tips on battery use.

I wouldn't recommend running your MB w/o the battery. Nothing bad, except the speed will be stepped down to a 1GHz - why, I have no idea but its true.

I have no particular knowledge about the MacBook Pro, but with most modern laptop batteries your best bet is to make sure that you try and cycle through one full charge/discharge cycle every month. So, it doesn't matter if you leave it plugged in most of the time, but if you run the laptop off the battery until it goes to sleep, and then re-plug it in, at least once a month you'll get the most life out of the battery.

Some people claim that you don't even need to go through a full charge/discharge cycle all at once, and as long as you run it off battery for 3-4 hours a month it will be enough to prolong the life of the battery.

apparently theres a new way to callibrate the new MB and MBP's...whether its true or not

now you have to wait a few hours before the computer goes to sleep on its own, then when you replug you have to let it stay plugged for an extra few hours.

The optimal charge level at which to store batteries is 40%. Put them in a ziplock bag, and put it in the fridge if you're going to store it for an extended amount of time. The freezer will damage it, though, so avoid that.
