i just unboxed this thing, started loading some things and popped in a DVD that i had made (and tested in other computers and DVD players) and nothing happened. i manually launched dvd player and it says "the dvd drive cannot be found". so i hit the eject button (tried holding it too) and nothing happens. i've read countless posts and how-to's on how to get out a stuck disc and still can't get it out. i can hear it spinning, but its like the macbook doesn't even see the drive nor can it even control it. anyone have any tips or ideas what might be going on?

Reboot holding the trackpad button down after the chime.

yeah... i've tried that, along with all the other tricks like sliding a card under the disc and getting it to try to kick it out at boot..... but i'm not even convinced the macbook even sees the device as a whole. it doesn't even show up in the system profiler.. and i've searched through /var/log/system.log and don't see any entries where the superdrive device is being probed.

ideas:?

My only other ideas are to go to the Apple store.

the screwdriver and torquescrew at the apple store is your best friend here. i guess the DVD has some damage (warpage) and that is why it can't eject it
