just wanted to post this.
i love my 12" powerbook, perfect size for me, weight, etc (just too hot, of course).
played with a friend's macbook yesterday; nice but...
i realize i am counting on apple making a 12" mpb (or, at least, something smaller & lighter than the macbook).
am gonna be seriously disappointed if apple does NOT make such a machine (and am aware that it doesn't look promising).
if they don't...
not sure what i'll do. maybe an imac for some things, and keep my pb...??
when apple first did a 12" pb, a lot of us were thrilled (hey, i came up on the 10.4" 2400c powerbook).
c'mon, apple! do the right thing....

Yep, I'm waiting too. A 12" mpb would be the only reason for me, to replace my loved 12" pb.
I'm crossing my fingeres

Is your 12" PB not doing it for you anymore? I don't think Apple is going to release a small MacBook Pro, as the MacBook takes a lot of that market. I think their reasoning is that anything you'd absolutely need a dedicated graphics card for, you'd need a bigger screen to put it to good use. Hence, a 15" MacBook Pro.

u may be right, but...people were saying the same thing and then, apple gave us a 12" powerbook.
so i am (still) hoping they will consider the same market (after all, we had a 12" pb and ibook for a long time)...
we'll see, but am disappointed they didnt do this from the start with the mbp's...

The Apple marketing for their notebooks, since the intro of the MacBooks, says 'Meet the family, now complete'. I personally think this means that, for the forseeable future, the notebook line will not be recieving any new product lines/versions... obviously tech spec upgrades, but nothing else

Don't hold your breath. The 12" PB ate into iBook sales and the 12" iBook ate into 12" PB sales. It's not going to happen unless they go ultra mobile with no optical drive (still a long shot). Also, as hot as some people are saying the MB gets, a 12" aluminum MBP would be extremely difficult to cool without scalding you. There's not enough space in there for a decent heat sink as it is. With DVI now on the MB, there could be no incentive for a 12" MBP other than a dedicated graphics chip, which adds to the thermal problem. That's not enough to make a separate machine.

maybe not so much that the ibook and 12" pb cut into each other's sales, as they both sold well.
either way, i still hope apple recognizes the 'pro' 12" powerbook users, and gives us a new machine....

Apple has never *really* recognised 'pro' users who want small machines. The 12" powerbook was far from 'pro' when compared to the 15 and 17" machines. It had no FW800, a pretty crappy GFX card, no backlit keyboard, crappy resolution, slower clock speeds, no PC card slot, no gigabit ethernet, old and outdated RAM, non dual layer superdrive, and the list goes on.
So why Apple would recognise pro users who want small machines now, I don't know...

u might be right. remember, no one expected a 12" powerbook, so there you go...
it's not 15" specs, but i can:
run logic and reason (rewired, a big deal).
photoshop
indesign
dreamweaver
etc
on the 12" pb.
am STILL gonna hope apple gives us a new small pro book...
