With a couple of my previous laptops, the keyboard would sometimes touch the screen when the laptop was closed, leaving scuff marks on the screen.

Has anyone noticed this with the MacBook?

The MacBook appears to have enough clearance, though I'm concerned that it might flex enough for the keys to reach with slight pressure. I've seen it happen with another laptop inside its own pocket in a padded case when its power supply (in a separate pocket with padding between them) bounced slightly against it while walking or rested on top of it when the bag was laying on its side in a car.

I have an STM Alley bag and it's got a lot of padding but isn't a hard shell. I'm deciding whether or not to bother using the thin foam screen cover that the MacBook shipped with... I did that with my last laptop and while it kept the screen free of marks, it was annoying to place it in the laptop each time I closed the lid.

I know there are protection kits, but I don't want to deal with that if I don't have to.

No keys touching my screen. The keys should be set low enough. I have to think this is uniform on all MBs

If it's anything like the MBP then you should be fine. However I would still buy the protective screen cover.

I don' t have a mb, but a mbp and i have not had any indentation on my screen. But there are on the rim of the screen where it touches the speaker grill. So I see little hole indentations, hehehe. But it doesn't really bother me.

With the iBook the keys could easily touch the screen. Because of this there were a number of (sometimes expensive) screen protectors on the market. We use the foam sheet that came from the factory with the iBook, and that's worked fine. If the MB comes with such a sheet, keep it and save the money you'd spend on a fancy screen protector for something more useful.

Until now, I've been using the protective foam shipping sheet. From here on, I'm going to instead go "au naturel"; if I find any scuffs, I'll resume using the foam sheet.

I'll report in after a week or two.

I've had may MBP since just after they were released and I definitely have screen scuffs. I think it is because I pack my MBP in a protective sleeve every day going back and forth to work. After a while, I started to notice scuffs on the screen. I've concluded that it was due to the way I put my MBP into the sleeve. I grabbed it at the latch side and slid it in. I think this caused the screen to flex and rub against the keys. I now grab it on the hinge side since it doesn't flex from that end.

The scuffs aren't really visible when the screen is on, but when it's off or I'm using the laptop in a bright room, I can see them. I've decided that I move around with my laptop enough that I don't want to have a protective cover that constantly needs to be inserted and removed. I suppose that's why the MBs have rubber keys.
