My MacBook has this weird bug where if I plug in a Firewire device, it shuts down. I believe it only happens with unpowered Firewire devices, like before I turn it on to use (such as an external hard drive). Anyone else experienced this?

Sounds like a short. Bring it to the Apple. Don't plug stuff in anymore, either. You could cook it in a big way.
