Hello All,

I hope this isn't a repost but didn't find anything exactly the same. I have a new 2Ghz MacBook black (my first Mac). I have it setup to act as my main desktop PC. So it is closed and attached to an external monitor via DVI, USB 2.0 hub with mouse, card reader, printer, and keyboard via a PS/2 to USB keyboard (direct into the macbook usb port). Keyboard/mouse is logitech RF wireless. I have disconnected all network drives, uninstalled any software that loads at startup. I can not get the system to sleep and stay asleep. After clicking sleep the screen goes dark for 2-3 seconds, the sleep light stays solid, and then the optical drive makes noise (like its being accessed) and then the screen comes back to life. All software is up to date. I have disabled network admin wake and bluetooth wake. In fact wireless and bluetooth are disabled since I am wired as a desktop.

A second problem is that I have also seen it go to sleep if I have left it too long idle. Then it will not wake on any key press. Even if I open the lid and press the keys. I have to hold the power button for 5 seconds to power it off to recover it.

Anyone have these problems? Thanks for looking.

OK Guys I think I figured out my problem and got my Macbook to sleep properly. As mentioned I am using it as a desktop replacement so I always have peripherals etc attached. Turns out it was an external USB card reader!!! Jeez WTF? Who would have thought something like that would keep the system from sleeping. If you guys have one of these hooked up disconnect it and give it a try. Also try removing external peripherals one by one until it sleeps. Good luck!

I do not think the problem is caused solely because of your usb hub. I have the same problem and constantly have to restart. I still have the problem when the computer goes idle, it does not wake up. What did you do to solve your problems? Thanks.

My problem of the computer not waking up has also mysteriously gone away. Note I have tried to cut back on running software I do not need as well. If this problem is still happening to you all the time maybe try uninstalling any widgets or other programs which are running all the time and see if it goes away.
