According to this article here Apple is suppose to hold a press event. I guess its now official. Core 2 duo's? yeah probably. At first I was under the impression that Apple was not going to attend but I guess this has changed. Just a PSA.
It was so much more fun in the days of the PPC. Now with intel its like playing a game on a cheat mode - mildy entertaining in the beginning but overall kinda boring.

I wonder if the press event is really about a new iPod. I would expect a quiet bump from Core 1 to Core 2.

Timing certainly is auspicious for the Merom MBPs to be announced (relative to Intel's announcements and PC laptop vendors' announcements). With all the noise PC vendors have made I do not think Apple will do a silent upgrade.
And I am so ready to buy a Merom MBP...

Could it also be about iPods?
There are quite a few rumors pointing to 9/5 for Mac updates.

I don't see a special event to release updated machines with just a new chip. Will likely be new iPods...

New iPod(s) and a mention of speed bumps and hardware updates to portables and mini.

Has this actually been confirmed by any other news source? Seems odd that this one Mac radio show is the only place that seems to know about it so far.

I am looking to buy a new MacBook Pro and iPod. Should I wait for this announcment? Are we talking about a 100GB iPod?

Hmm, assuming it is Moron based laptops: script please!
"One last thing! You know the problems we've been having with batteries? We are fixing that TODAY! Our new Moron based laptops, across the line, use 40% more battery power for a 15% CPU performance increase. <Apple Sauce!> So you'll never have to worry about a fully charged battery again! <Apple Sauce> And we know some of you have been complainging about the heat from the MacBook and MacBook Pro: it's just NOT ENOUGH you told us! And we're fixing THAT today too! The NEW laptops are AT LEAST 12% hotter than the old models! <Apple Sauce>.
Forget "Redmond, start you copiers"; we're heading for Mac Users, Start Your Whining!
And boy, I bet you will.

I would wait, whats the big deal about waiting 12 days for a faster MBP? About the iPod - maybe the they will unveil the newer design along with deals with movie companies about purchasing movies. I mean is it just chance that 4/5 of the Macs come with remote controls?
Dimmer, I feel your pain and agree Apple needs to address these issues before slipping a hotter chip chip into PB design that has reached it maximum potential. Apple seems to have this ship now and fix any problem later mentality.
BTW more info on the Keynote here
