I am going to use this as education and entertainment purposes. Do you think 1GB will be enough? I'll be downloading many movies and music as well as opening msn, 5-10 internet explorers, microsoft windows, all at the same time.

Also, can you download normal .avi movies off the internet and watch it with the macbook? Sorry I am new to macs.

For mac os x, what program is similar to word, powerpoint and excel?

512mb does alot for me. I will have Limewire, AIM, Yahoo, about 5 explorer windows open and itunes running and the computer hardly lags.

I just bought 1gb so it should speed up the computer alot.

I would say 1gb is good for what your talking about.

O yea, You wanted to also know a mac alternative to word and excel.

Well just to let you know they make Mac OS X version of Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I have them on my blackbook and they work great.

You can view avi files with Quicktime. You might need to download the divx codec and flip4mac for wmv videos too. Alternatevely you can use VLC or MPlayer to play videos too.

DivX 6 Codec for Mac
Flip4Mac - Digital Media Tools for the Mac
VideoLAN - Free Software and Open Source video streaming solution for every OS!
MPlayer - The Movie Player

As for Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, just get Office 2004 for Mac. (Notice that Office is not universal yet which means it will run through rosetta on Intel Macs)

Office 2004 for Mac
