i have decided that it would be fun to post good uses for the MBPs heat.

when watching a dvd on my 17in putting my hands on the heat will help alleviate joint pain and the sound provides a subtle vibration that helps even more i just need to be careful to lift or turn the hand every 1-2 minutes to avoid burns.

what are some other uses for a hot mbp??

I don't have an MBP, but my friend uses her rediculously noisy and hot HP laptop as a heater when her heating breaks down. The power brick also keeps her feet warm

Meanwhile this Inspiron of mine runs really cool; its fans rarely come on (not a troll, just truth!).

My son's Inspiron 1505 seems to be nice and cool. It has a Core Duo 1.6GHz processor, so it's not that much slower than an MBP, and yet it's only "warm" to the touch, even while doing a lot of work. Ya gotta wonder...

Yup, same experience here (same machine for those who didn't know). I have to say I was unfair to Dell, to a certain extent. But now I'm wondering if I should have held out for a Merom Inspiron.

Isn't the Inspiron twice as thick as the MBP? and made of plastic? and, depending on the build, without a dedicated GPU to generate additional heat?

The 17 inch is hot? The one at Voelker Research is ice cold, even being on display all day with Final Cut and Aperture open.
