Hey, curious problem with my 1.2 Ghz G4 iBook.

I recently opened up the keyboard while it was on, to get a crumb out from under the keys. I've done this before without any problem. However, upon replacing the keyboard, the machine locked up. It did this again including a kernel panic the third time, no matter how careful I am about putting the keyboard back down. I don't understand what would cause it to do this, I'm not pinching the ribbon cable or putting undue pressure on anything, any ideas? It didn't ever do this before in the year and a half I've owned it but this has left me unsettled.

And no, I don't have AppleCare any longer, it expired in August. The G4 was a replacement by Apple for a G3 I got three years ago and they wouldn't let me extend the Applecare on this one. -_-

Mine didn't do that either. It could be that the airport card is a bit loose and that it's being moved when you put the keyboard back which makes the machine kernel panic.

This has also happened to me. I read somewhere - perhaps in the manual - that you're supposed to shut down before removing the keyboard. I guess this is why.
