Just like many of you, my BlackBook had been going through RSD. RSD getting worse as time went on. It was really bad after coming out of sleep. As a result, I would leave my iTunes library on random so as to not let it get put into sleep mode. I did this all weekend and had no RSS's at all. I thought if could just make it through the next few weeks, I'd have a nice long break from school where I could send it to Apple.

Apparently my computer had a different idea. It crapped out on my early this morning as I tried to boot it up for my first class. To my horror, all I got were vertical lines that would get more vivid with time. Not good. So I sulked around all day, thinking that I wouldn't have a computer for the next few weeks. I got back from classes in the afternoon and called AppleCare.

After about an hour wait (or so it seemed - Can you believe Less Than Jake is in their hold music library?) a very nice woman came on. I told her what was wrong and she instructed me to do this-

1. Turn the computer off
2. Press the power button then quickly hold down the option, apple, P, and R keys all at the same time.
3. Hold the buttons through three chime reboots.
4. After the three chimes, let it start up.
5. Once booted
(a) Click on the blue apple in the upper left
(b) Go to the Blue Apple > About this Mac > More info
(c) Check to make sure your SMC version is 1.4f10, if not, proceed to update your Firmware ..........(mine was already updated)
(d) Go to system preferences > Display
(e) Change your screen resolution to something other than you had it, then change it back to what you had it at.
6. Done

After doing this, my computer worked fine for about 5 minutes, then shut itself down. I restarted it and have now have not had any problems with it all night. I took it to three meetings and had it closed and open, in and out sleep mode. Each time, it came out of sleep mode just fine and is working the way it was when i bought it. It was worth the wait on the phone. I went from having a computer that wouldnt even boot to having a system that works flawlessly.

She also made it seem as though Apple acknowledged this problem, as posted in other threads, and said that they believe it to be a software problem now, not a hardware issue.

Hope this helps some of you less fortunate souls.

~ Austin
