Not sure if this is in the right place. I am sending my macbook in for repair and I have private files/folders that I don't want the repair centre to access. Can I lock files, do I need to give the repair centre my password or is there a way of giving them full system access from another account ? If so how? It is giong to have discoloured parts repaced and to get rid of the mooing I hope ! Any help would be much appreaciated. Thanks

If it is a cosmetic repair they should not even turn on the computer to do the repair, with the exception of making sure it DOES turn on.

I would set a password to your account though and turn off auto-logon. Perhaps make a guest account as well without a password so they can run system utilities if they have to.

Cheers

You could just right-click the folder and change the permissions so you don't even have access to them. Later you can use the little unlock icon to give yourself access to the files once again. Now if the computer is set to auto login, then they will not have access to those files period unless they have the password to your account. Now, even if you do give them the password, you can have all the dirty pictures, or bomb making plans in the folder, and the chances that they will go threw the trouble to unlock the folder is just nearly none .

When I sent in an iMac G5 for repair. I created a new admin account named "Apple" and set it to autologin with that account. Be sure to backup your files.

How do I creat a new limited log on account so they have to use that with no access to my files, only the system files? Thanks

An admin user cannot access the contents of another user's folder.
