Hi,

i bought a new macbook today which was working fine out the box. I then upgraded the harddisk to a 160gb hitachi SATA but whilst reinstalling MAC OS X on to this drive, as soon as i reach the Select a destination screen their are no options.

Although it appears it is not recogning the hard drive, when i go into the disk utility my new hitachi is listed and their appears to be no problems with it.

Anyone have a clue where i'm going wrong? i'm clueless

Please Help!!!! it's my first mac.

Did you format the drive in Disk Utility? Click the Erase tab and format it.

Do as Steve recommends and then get back to us.

There's a chance that it's not getting recognized by the installer because it's not in a recognized format for the installer. If so, formatting/erasing via Disk Utility should make it visible to the installer. You'll want to make sure "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" is selected when you do so.

that's done it, thank you so much, i should have thought of it.

by the way, quick question, when i removed the hard disk i accidently ripped the orange tape that is next to the first ram slot, this isn't likely to cause a problem is it?

and again, thank you very much steve & Gabriel
