will it be obsolete?

Since they never made a 1.83GHz in black, it seems to be a scam or something like that.

They seem to be confused then. It should be a 2.0GHz. If it is, it is a good deal.

that's what i'm thinking too ... it was also quick with only 512mb of memory.

wondering if that price was like a display model or refurb? might ride back up there tonight just to check.

It would be worth it, since it would still be under warranty. Def buy AppleCare for it though, to be safe in the future.

My guess is that the black MacBook was displayed, but the signage was for the other MacBooks

well, if indeed it is that price, i think it is a steal ... mismarked or not, they would have to honor that price right?

In general, no. They do not have to honor that price. They might choose to as a matter of customer goodwill, but don't bet on it.

For one thing, if the sign says they're selling a 1.83Ghz MacBook for 1099, they are under absolutely no obligation to sell you a 2.0Ghz anything for 1099.

Fry's has a history of not being the sharpest marketing tool in the shed, but they do try to be good to customers. As it is a good price, I'd ask their head Apple sales guy about it and see what happens.

Which Fry's store was this at? I've been to two in the Houston area, and by far I like the one near Sugarland better...

okay, i went back yesterday and mis-read the sign because the first time i went they had one sign for both machines: a blackbook and macbook (both non-pro).

the white was for $1,099 and the blackbook was actually only $1,299 through 9/19.

this was at the fry's on i45N before the beltway.
