Here is the short story... Broke the LCD in my PowerBook G4, got a replacement unit (the whole screen) removed the case and installed the screen. Screen is working perfectly now.

When I close the lid the computer does not go to sleep, I did install the security update, but I am thinking physical problem. I opened it back up and checked all connections, put it back together and still won't sleep.

Any ideas where to start first?

Got it! Apparently the display was from a slightly different revision of my powerbook, the LCD was the same exact model (and brighter than my old one, yay!) But there is a small magnet inside the display that activates the sleep switch, opened the display unit (a scary thing to do on these machines) moved the magnet over slightly (consulted my old display for proper alignment) and bam it is back sleeping again!
