I have a G4 Rev. D 15 inch PowerBook with 1.5 GB of RAM.

A couple of days ago my computer seemed slow so I checked my RAM and it says I only have 1GB. I have a 1GB and a 512MB combination. It's worked fine for a year and a half until now. I switched the RAM around and it says I only have 512MB. Anyone know what's wrong? I don't have AppleCare and my warranty ran out.

Widely reported/known issue with one of the RAM slots failing.

Resolution is to replace the logic board ($1000ish).

What Mark said, but check with Apple because once in a while they have creative pricing for post-warranty problems that occur to a lot of folks.
