I know that this sounds strange, but I can't stand it anymore. I've had my MacBook Pro for a few months now and while I've had my share of problems, this one is getting to me.

When I am using the trackpad, the edge of the notebook digs into my palm. It happens whether I am using it on a table or using it on my lap (which I do more). It creates an impression from the edge. I end up having to either use my shirt (very attractive) or a towel to put under my hand to cusion it. It sounds ridiculous.

I have tried searching for something that will work, but I don't see anyone else who has this problem. I don't think that the Wrist Rug or products like it will work as it doesnt' cover the edge of the book. Anyone else had this problem or do I just have really abnormal palms?

Welcome to the forums!

Just cut the wrist rug in such a way that you can rearrange the palm rests so that they come exactly to the edge of the book. They'll be a little bit more prone to peeling up, but there's always a trade-off.

This exact problem is one of my biggest gripes about my aluminum PowerBook from 3 years ago. It's horrifically uncomfortable to use, for me. (I now use it just about exclusively with an external display, keyboard, and mouse at home.)

It's a big enough problem to make me not buy another laptop with the same edge design.

So no, you're not the only one.

You know how you can get foam door-insulation that has removable tape on only one side? Some of the stuff I've seen is beige with 2 ridges and a crease running down between them. Just run some along the edge while allowing room for the latches.

Bit of an unsightly solution? Hey, it's your MBP and as long as it's comfortable? Besides, you can get some other strongly colored stickers to personalize things (and draw attention away from the edge padding.) Sort of like tatooing your MBP...and nobody will mistake for their laptop at the airline security counters!

I also agree with you that the sharp edge design is a problem. I believe that it is inconsiderate design. Imagne the poor buggers who have the 12" PB which is the thickest of all the AL PBs and so that would dig in the most of all lol.

look at some of the Sony laptops... they have smooth rounded edges and even have the chassis sloping down towards the user to make it nicer... lets hope apple learnfrom their experience and redesign the next form factor to be more considerate as far as ergonomics are concerned...

In the meantime.. i have adjusted the way i type... it was not pleasant but im used to it now... I can type comfortably and this no longer bothers me...It digs in a little but nowhere near as much. But it still doesnt make it right!

cheers,
rob.

Yeah, um I have no clue what you're talking about. Perhaps, my hands are just callused from working out but I've never experienced this issue on my brother's MBP

I thought the edge on my iBook was sharp, but when I went to check out the new MacBooks and MBPs, it was enough to convince me that using one with that sharp edge would drive me nuts. Looks sweet, but hurts the wrists.
