Hi everyone! I'm new to these forums ... here's my first ordeal:

I have an Snow iBook G3 (500MHz, 10GB HDD, 128MB RAM, Dual USB, DVD Player). It currently has no operating system on it!

My problem is that I can't install any OS on the iBook becuase it always freezes during installation. I've tried installing OSX 10, however everything freezes (randomly I might add as well). I'm currently trying to install YellowDog Linux (as I prefer Linux over OSX & Windows), however this freezes randomly during installation as well.

After making sure that all the discs I have are not corrupt, and making sure that the iBook is not overheating, I've come to the conclusion that it's the DVD player that is copping out on me.

So, I thought maybe I could install OSX or Linux (anything at this point as i'm in dire need of this laptop to get working!) through an external device. I have an external USB DVD player which I use for this old Dell notebook I have, I was wondering if this would work on the iBook?! If so, HOW?!

It won't work acceptably because your iBook has USB 1.0, and you need USB 2.0. Use a FireWire external DVD drive instead.

Ok, fair enough ... Know of where I can get an external FireWire DVD drive?

Also, would it be possible to install from an iPod?!
