This topic has not been discussed? I searched as many key words as I could (like Magsafe failure, or magsafe dead, or magsafe crapped out) but nothing came up?
Anyways, I am a victom of the common magsafe failure.. I plug it in, and nothing happens. My friends did the same thing when he got his MBP and applecare replaced it at no charge.
But I am reading under the comments for a new 85w Magsafe, and people are saying apple is blaming missuse to them and not replacing them.
Any tips on how to get apple to replace it under warrentee? something I need to say, or not say?
My adapter is asthetically perfect, doesn't look missused, no dirt, no dents, just crapped out.

OK, try something first: unplug the adapter from the wall, wait 10 seconds, and then plug it back in.
If it works, I'll bet you ran into something that many people have: the built-in protection circuitry in the adapter. If the power going in seems "dirty" (e.g. mild surges and sags, weird harmonics, etc) the adapter will detect it and turn off to protect itself. Unplugging it will reset it.
If not, talk to Apple. It should be no big deal replacing it if it's not damaged. Even if it's got signs of use, it should be no problem.

Yeah, I tried that before posting... I tried it for 10 seconds, and then tried it for 10 minutes, nothing worked.
But props to the apple store, they were kind, quick and helpful... I told him it wasn't working (without second guessing me) he grabbed a test one out of his drawer to make sure the computer end of the magsafe was still good, then tested to see which part of mine was broken... When the extension cabled worked but the block didn't, he grabbed a new one off the shelf, handed it to me and said have a nice day!
thanks Northpoint apple store!

Apple will not replace it IF they see a HUGE amount of wear and tear, or if it's broken, exposing wires, etc, etc.... It the adapter looks good... they'll swap it no problem. They're nice about it... they just have certain policies.
(imagine a car owner going back to the dealership to complain that his gas cap isn't coming off right. imagine there was an obvious accident that another car had hit that area or the owner drive it into the pole there. how could the dealership say it was defective under warranty?)

As tooki said, "normal wear" is not a problem. Nobody should expect to take an obviously abused device into a store and say "it's not working-replace it for me!"
