what's up with my startup disk icon?

so i'm not sure when this actually occurred but my "Startup Disk" icon in System Preferences is botched. it looks like a zoomed in version of the original.

see what i'm saying? i can still click it and it brings me into the correct settings page but it looks horrid.

any help?

Your preferences are corrupted. Try running the Mac OS X 10.4.8 combo update from Apple''s website.

Or clear your caches using e.g. Onyx or some other maintenance app (or by hand if you like).

Clear your caches. That is (probably) the problem.

FYI, in the future you should put operating system questions in the Mac OS X forum.

Anyhow, this question has been asked (and answered) probably 10 times now in the OS X forum. I brought the most recent thread about it (from a week ago) to the front and made it sticky. It contains the solution.
