whats up people?

right now, i am typing this on my hp pavilion laptop. the specs are as follows -
dual core pentium 4, 3.4 ghz. 1gb ram. 100gb hdd. ati video card 256mb i believe.
i've been running this laptop for over a year now and i like it. its fast and i like the HD display. it's also heavy as all hell and it runs pretty hot.

after seeing the macbook pro's, i've decided that i want one. that is where i need your guys help. i've got my eye on the 15 inch, 2.0 ghz model. can someone just please tell me how these two processors compare?

also, how about internet access? i've got that standard cable internet at home and am wondering how hard is it gonna be setting up the MBP with my current router and modem and using it on the same network as my two other desktop PC's.

and have all the bugs and stuff been sorted out with "bootcamp"? i think thats what its called anyway. the idea of running both OS's on the same machine is one of the most appealing things about this for me.

i've also read a lot about the 'hissing' noises, the screen being brighter/darker at certain parts, the machine running VERY HOT, etc... i'm wondering if these were just problems with the first generation of these machines and if all these issues have been sorted out as of now (every review and whatnot i read about MBP's are all dated 6 months ago and i cant find anything more recent).

thanks in advance for any replies. i'm full on ready to make the swith to mac cause everyone says its more stable, there isn't any viruses/spyware floating around, and quite frankly i'm tired of windows (but i still need it for certain programs) etc.... but i've got my reservations about spending 2.5-3k on something that i'm not very familiar with.

There's good reason to believe that the second generation of MacBook Pros is coming soon. It might be smart to wait to see how those turn out.

the new intel chip likely runs circles around the P4, even if it's dual core

how soon?

another factor in this is my sister just started college and needs a laptop. the plan is for me to grab a new one (i'm hoping MBP) and give this one to her. she's gonna have a hell of a time lugging this thing around, but she says it's okay. i need to decide on what i'm getting in probably the next couple of weeks.

any specs? i'm not doubting that. afterall the machine i'm running is probably a year and a half old already, i would just like to see a side by side comparison of the two.
