Hi, after visiting a friend down in Indiana, I fell in love with his macbook, I had a powerbook which I traded in for an iMac core duo 20", I used it mainly for watching dvds/tv shows, and now Im wishing I had something I could tote around with me when I have the will to do so. Id like to get a Macbook Pro, but I figured I cant afford one, after selling my iMac. So question is would I be okay in getting an upper spec macbook? I dont play games on it, but I do some song creation with Garageband, and ableton live. Otherwise it'd mostly be used for surfing the web, email, IM and watching movies/tv shows on the go. Thanks for helping.

The downside to the Macbook is the GPU for games (and some pro apps like Motion/Aperture) and the screen size (1280x800). If you're ok with those, the Macbook sounds great.

if your not doing stuff like aperature, final cut etc. you should be able to do all of the things that you already do on the macbook.

Sounds great. I bought an iMac intending to play more games but I never did.

Another question. Why the hell is the black macbook 200 bucks more than a white one. Even after a 50 dollar HD upgrade which would make the macbook white $1300, the macbook black is 1500.

And one more question, I promise last one. If I were to buy the macbook white with the 2.0 ghz processor and the standard 60gb hard drive, would I be able to upgrade the hdd later if I needed to? How easy would this be?

It would be VERY easy. That's what I did. Mine is the 60 GB hdd and I plan to upgrade it a little later to a larger size. It's almost as easy as putting in RAM.

Awesome, I think i can sell my imac for 1200 bucks, and I can get the macbook for 1285 after my student discount. So it's all a go. I cant believe they're charging 150 dollars more for a damn color. It's ridiculous.

It's a topic we've been over: you know how the metallic paint jobs on cars cost more, despite a tiny difference in the material costs? When you see someone with a BlackBook you know they have disposable income: social status. Sure, you can say "more money than sense", but then ask yourself why you care, why do you want that black color, why does it upset you that you are asked a premium for the thing you desire?

there really are some people who drive around looking for the most expensive gas so they can brag about how much they paid for it.

Possibly more disposable income, maybe just farther in debt. I could buy a macbook for every room in my house, but I refused pay the premium for a *single* black macbook.
