All right I just had an offer from a guy who wants to sell his laptop a 1.86 Ghz MacBook Pro. What I want to know he got it back from Apple as a replacement for his PowerBook G4 that died. So is it a Rev A or do I look for the first part of the serial number to see if it's a newer model or did Apple repair the problems of this unit.

All current MBPs are Rev A. I know you can look at the serial no. to work out what week it was built but i'm not sure which part.

I was told to look a serial number that began with the following numbers "W8612". Only thing is if this is a refurbished or repaired model then it's not Rev C or D.

Plus all the other items like Airport etc……

He wants 1,400 new in box will show shipping date just got it from apple.

The serial number won't necessairly tell you if it has been repaired (to fix the whine). All of the MacBook Pros are Rev A, but some have had the hardware fixed to end the whine. If that one has the whine, 1) you'll notice it as soon as he turns it on for you to use and 2) Apple will repair it free of charge.
