Can a mid-2004 iBook G4 with 256 MB RAM be upgraded from Panther to Leopard? (If this is a Mac OS X question please move)

Thx.

You'll need more RAM, at least 512Mb.

I don't think the final requirements for Leopard have been released. 256MB RAM would be painful even in Tiger, so I'd say up the RAM and you should be fine. You'll of course be missing some of the eyecandy since the GPU is so slow.

that ibook doesnt support core image...the last revision (with the radeon 9550) did, so if you're hunting for a used ibook, look for one of those...

He already has an iBook. I'd put an extra 1gb of Ram in it.

The Radeon 9200 does not support Core Image, which means it will not support Core Animation. This will mean that a lot of the nifty eye-candy will be disabled, but odds are the system will still install and run flawlessly. Just get more RAM, and you'll be okay. You can add up to an additional 1 GB into those; I suggest that you do this.

My iBook is not my main computer (BlackBook/1GB RAM/80GB HD) so eye candy is not a worry. My MacBook is at the AppleStore (random shutdowns) so i was thinking about my iBook being upgraded to Leopard when it comes out. I don't think i'll upgrade it (with the cost of ram and all).

Thanks for the help.
