I find it strange that everytime I downloaded a file onto my desktop, the file does not appear immediately. It takes quite a while before it appear. Sometimes only after a reboot.

Does anybody have similar experience?

I'm using MacBook with 10.4.8.

I've never had this problem but, you should try to create a folder on the desktop called "Downloads" (or what ever name you want and then go the Safari menu > Preferences > General > "Save downloaded files to: Desktop": Change it by going into the menu and click "Other...". Select the folder you created on the desktop.
