It will make 20% of the computer 18% faster. In other words, very little.

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).

Google "santa rosa chipset" then peruse the various relevant links.

The Santa Rosa chipset will have an 800 MHz FSB vs. Napa's 667 MHz FSB.

The reason people are excited about it is because on Napa there are several tests where Core 2 Duo (Merom) shows hardly any advantage when compared with Core Duo (Yonah). In addition, the desktop Core 2 (Conroe) performs a good deal better than Merom. One of the reasons for this is that Merom is FSB limited. Certain operation would be faster on merom if it were running on a faster FSB. Once Santa Rosa arrives this problem should become less severe.

It's more difficult to say what it will do for you and it depends very much on what you do. I have this little rule of thumb: If you wait a lot in front of your computer for tasks to finish because you're CPU limited, most every benefit is worth the money (CPU clock, FSB, etc.). OTOH if you normally don't really wait for tasks to finish (everyday use, web surfing, etc.), you will hardly notice anything from performance increases on the order of 15%.

What are you referring to - 802.11n? It will be the successor to 802.11g ('Airport Extreme') and is expected to be finalized by July 2007.

More on 802.11n here: IEEE 802.11 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As far as wireless goes, Santa Rosa supports all the wifi standards (802.11a, 802.11g, 802.11n), WiMAX (802.16e), and WWAN and HSPDA (both are high-speed cellular data).

Santa Rosa is a whole SET of chips, one of which is the integrated wireless chip.

Same as on the current Napa chipset - that comes with a wireless chip, as well.
