Hello all,

I've got a PowerBook G5 (15" 1.25GHZ SD) hooked up to an external LCD via a DVI cable. The display on the external LCD seems to keep jumping to the side by 1 pixel, and then back to normal. Any ideas why, or is it time for my powerbook to take a trip back to Apple? (AppleCare expires in January)

While I'm here, I may as well ask - I'm also having a problem with my power adaptor, as the connection into the PB isn't too solid. i.e. the power lead keeps slipping down slightly in the socket, and losing the connection. Is this something that AppleCare should cover, or will they just say that it's due to wear-and-tear?

Thanks,
Mike Peel

Edit: After a bit more time using the system, I've noticed a correlation between the jumping by one pixel and using the input devices (keyboard, mouse). Which just makes it even more odd... unless it's because using the input devices causes the screen to change, hence it jumps.

You may be able to get a replacement power adapter from Apple for free since you're still under AppleCare. As for the LCD monitor issue, the best Apple can do is check it on their displays at the store and determine whether it's the Power Book's fault or the display's fault.

Can you hook the display up to another machine to see if it happens there? This doesn't seem like it's the Powerbook's (G4, I presume, not G5) fault. It could be a problem with the display.

I've tried the monitor on another computer, without a problem. I've also tried the powerbook on another monitor, and the problem continues.

Sorry, it is a G4 powerbook - I have that and a G5 powermac, and I often get them a bit confused.
