okay, so the new 15" mbp does NOT have a 7200rpm drive option.

can i run logic audio (etc) on this?
want to do audio work when travelling, pref self-contained (ie not have to carry an external drive).

always thought i needed a 7200rpm drive for this.
find it hard to believe apple would not support logic (their program) fully on their macbook pros...

any thoughts?

(and no, i do not want to buy a new machine then install my own HD...)
maybe when i'm rich...

Logic has been running fine for years, since long before the introduction of 7200 RPM drives.

The disk speed only affects the number of audio tracks that can be used. I have not been able to find any hard numbers yet, though.

I'd reccommend a dedicated external hard drive for doing pro audio for best performance and to reduce the workload and wear and tear on your system drive. Glyph brand hard drives can't be beat for an audio purpose drive.

all we use are external drives...

but i just want a solution that's simple, for travel (ie i have a 2-octave keyboard/audio interface and a 12" powerbook right now); would like to use a mbp w/o another drive..
(and guess i will, since my 12" pb only has a 4200rpm drive!)

You're going from a 12" Powerbook to a MBP, and you're worried about performance bottlenecks?

of course not; just wish the 7200rpm drive option existed in the 15" mbp)

The most I've recorded live at any one time with Logic 7.2 an my 2Ghz 15" MBP was 8 Audio tracks, with the standard 5400RPM, and the disk meter in the "Audio Performance" window hardly registered.

For playback I've had over 20 Audio tracks (plus a bunch of softsynths) the MBP handled it fine, all from the Standard 5400RPM internal drive.

Well, of course.

But if the 12" Powerbook can handle recording 28 tracks of audio simultaneously on an internal 5400 RPM drive...

I just want to know how logic pro is working on mbp.... are plug ins such as Stylus RMX or Atmosphere working fine? Are all audio cards working fine?
I'm willing to buy a new mbp but some people is telling me this machines aren't yet reliable as the processors are very new and may have trouble..... any ideas?
Thanks!
