Ever since upgrading to 10.4.8 (from 10.4.1) my trackpad randomly gets stuck. after a few seconds of trying to jiggle the cursor around, it then gets unstuck.
if screen saver comes on, or sometimes when the Safari page changes, it gets restuck.
I've tried playing with the settings, i thought maybe it was confusing the 2-finger scroll function with regular cursor movement, but turning off scroll hasn't helped it.
any reccommended course of action?

Sorry, I don't know why I only posted that and not more, download the 10.4.8 combo updater from apple and re-apply it in case something got broken in the previous update.
The combo updater provides ALL of the updated files from 10.4.0 to 10.4.8 and may help to fix your problem.

yes, a friends USB mouse works fine.
Funny thing is , before i did the OSX update, my Logitech Marble Mouse stopped working. No logitech device is "found".
I tried it on a PC and the mouse worked fine. I tried it on a friends' 17" Powerbook, and it didn't work.
this is strange.

Try a test user account and see if you still have the problem there. If so, it's possible that some software you've installed, such as for Logitech, is interfering. Then it's just a matter of uninstalling the software. Worst case: do a clean install of the 10.4, preserving your account and update back to 10.4.8.

Thanks. I didn't try the test user account, but the Logitech software DOES seem to be interfering. When I tried to delete all the Logitech Control Center files from the trash, it claims that "LCCDaemon.app cannot be deleted because it is in use."
I'm still new on Macs. Any suggestions? When I hit alt-cntrl-esc, all i see running is Internet connect, Safari, and Finder.

Well now that the files are in the trash they shouldn't be able to be used so reboot and then see if you can delete them.
