So on saturday afternoon, one fan in my MBP started making that awful screeching noise, like it was about to fail. I decided to back up my hard drive at that point just to be sure. During the back up, the noise became really loud, then stopped. I feared that the fan had died : smcfancontrol confirmed that for me.
I then went on the web, got an appointment with a Genius at the local Apple Store, for 7:20 pm that saturday night. He took the computer in, told me it could take up to 5-7 business days and so on. Faced with the reality of not having my lovely laptop for up to one week and a half, I went into a corner of my house and started crying.
Lo and behold, the NEXT day (a SUNDAY) I get a phone call. The MBP is fixed an ready to be picked up. They replaced the motherboard and the fan assembly, in about 24h.
WOW, gotta say, good job there guys!! Thought I would for once express some positive comments about the Apple Care techs.
Props to the Folks at the Menlo Park Apple Store!!
