Hi:
I have a rev A MBP which I have hooked on to a 30" apple cinema display.
Problem is that most games do not run smoothly at full resolution 2560 x 1600
(from Mac OS X or via boot camp). Is there a way to overclock the graphics
card so that it can drive the monitor at its native resolution ? If you have
the same setup, what resolution do you use ?

Even the top top PC with quad SLI and whatever else is on the market now would have problems at 2560*1600.
that resolution is huge! you will need to use a lower res. I doubt any laptop available (pc or mac) could run at that resolution smoothly - heck i doubt a desktop could!
once you get past aroung 1600*1200 things get slow.

I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

I fully expect Apple to introduce "gaming Mac" setups no later than mac Expo SF. My guess is both desktops and laptops. **Speculation on my part though, reading the tea leaves... except that Apple has expressed interest in gaming, and gaming boxes might also work well for Apple's pro graphics apps like Aperture. And all the parts are there, Apple just needs to build it.

There are *lots* of us waiting for gaming Macs. There are none available right now (MacPro would fit the bill but there's the small issue of its price). Regardless, MacBook Pro is an awesome laptop (oops, sorry, portable) in its own right.

No they aren't but that's not the point. Very few of us actually need a quad core and I think none of us need FB RAM. There's a need for an expandable Conroe based machine with plain DDR2 RAM and those tend to be much cheaper.

The gaming market is too small, and if you need a gaming laptop Mac you won't get anything better than a MBP. Also, there are not enough games for the Mac at the moment.
