Is it safe to run an MBP with the lid closed *all* the time? I have an external display, and I've heard mixed messages about this: both that it's good to let the heat dissipate through the keyboard and that it should be designed to handle lid closed operation. In particular, I'm wondering about possible damage to the screen due to heat coming out of the keyboard.

Thanks.

It's designed to work that way. If you couldn't operate it that way, the feature wouldn't be available.

Agreed.

My rev A MBP has slightly warmer palm rests when it's closed compared to when it's open, but it has been working absolutely fine with the lid closed for as long as I've had it.

Of course if you feel more comfortable you can leave the lid open (it certainly won't do any harm), but it's definitely not necessary.

If it could harm the MBP, Apple wouldn't advertise it as a feature. Just imagine the cost of all the warranty repairs.
