I have a 15" PB G4 that has served me flawlessly, except for an issue with the display. The bottom of the display has a dark area (presumably a failure in one of the lamps?) that has come back, same place, same issue, after having a new display put on under AppleCare 4 months ago.

When I got it back from the "authorized service center" which I had to drive to (an hour south of me) it was awesome, like new (except that the magnetic latch failed and then I had to mail it to Apple for repair). Now I'm going to have to send my PowerBook off for the 3rd time in the last 4 months to have the display fixed.

It's still under AC until May 2007, so that's not an issue, but what would you do if this happened to you? Should I be raising a concern with Apple?

In the meantime, using the excuse that I need a reliable computer to use, I ordered a new MBP C2D and my wife will take over the PB once it's fixed. Your constructive thoughts are appreciated.

I'd just have it repaired again. Sure it's not conveient, but it's free. That's probably all Apple will do for you too, but if you explain your situation and get a nice Applecare person, you never know what they'll do. They might finally just give you a whole new powerbook, instead of try and fix it too many times.

I would be really nice and ask them if they would consider giving you a new one.
