Hello,

2 days after I got my Black macbook, a CD got stuck in the drive. Eventually I was able to get it out by just leaving it there for 10 mins, but this grey foam ring came out of the drive along with the Macbook.

Discs can still be read by the drive, but when I tilt the Macbook, the drive has trouble reading the disc.

So - my question is: should I be able to tilt the macbook while reading an optical disc? Ie- should I be able to slowly turn the macbook upside down, and then rightside up with no optical read problems?

Another piece of data - when I tilt it, I do hear a sound that sounds like the disc rubbing against something while it spins.

thanks

LOL, no. Why are you tilting a slot loading drive? Why would you want to turn the unit upside down? Slot loading drives are known for being more sensitive, but I would never even turn a tray loading drive upside down. The sound you're hearing is probably your disc being scratched.

Because I'm wild, and I can. I'd expect to be able to tilt my new laptop in 2006

You should be able to tilt your MacBook while the drive is spinning. That ring obviously does something important.

It's still under warranty, Take it back! It's an open and shut case, your Macbook is broken.

Furthermore, the disc is probably tilting in the drive, and scraping up against the drive housing, or worse, the laser source, which may have scratched the disc up a bit. I would take that disc to another machine to make sure it will mount....
