I have a 15" powerbook g4 1.5ghz with 1.25gb of ram. recently when i try to import cds into itunes it gets to the last track, after making several unusual clicking sounds (i know that's bad) and seems to give up. i then have to struggle to get the CD out of the drive (force quitting itunes, ejecting the cd through finder and with the eject button, etc)

what i'm wondering is if i have a faulty drive, or a drive that's gone bad, and what my options are for replacing it.

thanks!

My combodrive CD-R did the same thing when I dropped my powerbook, so I ended up upgrading to a SuperDrive from http://macrecycling.com/

Now I just need to fix my case, so it doesn't block DVD's from being ejected. Haha, that's my fault, I put the wrong screws in the wrong spot apparently.

TIP: Note where the screws came from! sigh. I'll take it apart again and get them in the right spots later.

You have to be meticulous with the screws, which you found out. I downloaded a guide from...

POWERBOOK MEDIC - POWERBOOK PARTS, POWERBOOK REPAIR, IBOOK PARTS & MANUALS

they call them take apart manuals.
