Hey Guys,
I am a university student. I am definitely on the verge of switching to a Mac notebook from my windows one. I'd like to know, beside the ATI graphics card in the MBP, is it really a better option over the MacBook ? I ask this considering the huge price difference between the two.
I am ready to wait for the C2D that would be introduced in the macBooks. Could someone tell me how else does an MBP differ form a Macbook ?
Cheers

Yes, it is better in just about every specification. If you can't justify the price (i.e., use it professionally), then I would save money and get a MacBook.

Of course, that depends upon what you want to use it for. Run a search for a more detailed list of what is better on the MBP versus the MB on this forum since this question has been asked many times.

The short answer is that if you like a bigger screen and will need to do work that involves graphics or high performance gaming then the MBP is your only option. If you want something for email, word processing and web surfing and don't mind a little screen then the Macbook is the better choice.

personally, i love the larger screen on my mbp. for me, the mb is just too small, but if you dont mind the size, like the above poster said, then it may be just what you need. Plus, its smaller size does make it more easily portable, though the mbp isnt too large either (speaking of the 15 inch here). anyway, rest assured you wont regret your choice. i switched last december to a mac mini just to play with and now i am the proud mother of a mbp so just be advised that macs are like potato chips...you cant have just one!

iMac 24' 2.4 Ghz, 300GBhd, 2GBRAM, 256MBVRAM

I got a MBP shortly after they first came out, didn't like it because of the heat and size, and sent it back and replaced it with a Thinkpad T60. Then I replaced the T60 with a Macbook, and I far prefer the Macbook to the MBP as a laptop computer. Meaning that compared to the MBP I had, the Macbook is more portable and more comfortable to use as a true laptop. The Macbook is a joy to use, and it is my primary computer at work.

I've just last week ordered a new C2D MBP to replace both my Powermac G5 and Powerbook at home, but since I'll primarily be using it as a desktop replacement, the size and any heat issues it may (or may not) have won't affect me much.

If the Macbook had a better graphics card and could drive a 30" Cinema display, I probably would have gotten one for my personal use instead of the MBP.

i thought it was the other way around,
that potato chips are just like macs;
they can handle the crunch!
