Hello,
I purchased a iBook 2 years ago and it died 2 months after the factory warranty died of 05 being without a computer for a year as been fustrating. I borrow peoples computers for college papers and I go done to the library for computers it is getting fustrating.
The Scenario:
The Power adapter died
Bought A replacement from the apple store
funky things started going wrong for isntance wouldn't start up 100 percent I would get the question mark or the date would be set to defualt then it completly would not turn on it will spin the hard disk for a second then shut off or it will just run the fan at high speed I connected it to external monoitor and it isn't a LCD problem
then I pushed the buttons for the PMU resets and PRAM resets I had a friend look over and said the PRAM is dead. He tryed the PMU and PRAM resets as well.
Then I took it down to an authroized apple shop they said the logic board was faulty I did not have any money in the bank to repair or replace it so I put it in a dark closet.
Now I am fustrated how do I get this thing to work I am seeing that it has aged and the parts should be lot less when I first bought it. What are my options? I would like to keep my hard drive because I have pictures and music and software on there that I would like to have access to so I do not really want to switch to another OS right know. I do have technical now how I am going for a BS in Networking and Information security. What are my options can I buy say a broken powerbook from that era and swap in the stuff that is missing such as ram cd drive hard drive power adapter? I have 200 dollars to spend on this project let me know please
sorry about the rant because I am kicking my self because I could have put that 1800 somewhere lot more usefull then a computer that lasted for 1 year

Hello, and welcome!
First of all, when exactly did you buy it, and by what method? If you bought it using a major credit card, they may have a program which doubles the manufacturers' warranty. Since Apple has a 1-year warranty on all their laptops, this may qualify if your credit card company offers it. If it's been less than 2 years, call your credit card company and find out if they offer it.
Apple has an Logic Board repair program for older models, but if yours is less than two years old it won't qualify, as the cutoff is October 2003.

It's possible to take apart an iBook, take the hard drive out, and put it in an external USB or FireWire case to use with another Mac. You can even put it in a different laptop from the same era if you like. However, taking it apart is no easy task (although if you're considering a career in the IT field, you ought to get some experience doing surgery on laptops....) This place has step-by-step guides:
iFixit - iBook & PowerBook Parts
Good luck!

Thanks for the help sadly enough my serial was not in the ones with the bad logic board. I purchased if from the apple website not with a credit card, but with a debit card which I do not think they have any type of computer protection. I was very happy with the apple product and would like to continue owning apple products. Its just what happens when you buy new stuff some times you get a dude and sometimes you don't . The battery recall for instance effected everyone
