Hey everyone. I was thinking about selling my 17" 1.67 Ghz Powerbook G4 (512mb) and getting a 15" 2.16 Macbook Core 2 Duo stock. I am trying to weigh the pro's and con's of each to see if this is a good choice.

Has anyone out there made the switch from a 17 to a 15, if so, was it worth it? With all the extra's that I will be getting with the new 15", I think it may be. But, not for certain. Give me some feedback here, thanks all.

It depends on your eyes, I really like the extra real estate on a 17", but I'm getting OLDER! I even run my 17" at 1152 * 720

My Dad has both the 17" Pbk and the 15" Mbk. I think the size of the macbook pro is perfect, 15". The noticible things are the brighter screen and the video camera. I am also glad we can run Windows on it for games. But unless you are going to be using Aperture or demanding applications like it, there really isn't anything much better about the macbook pro other that what I have mentioned. Also, if you are currently using any Adobe apps, you would want to stick with the PBk, because Adobe apps are no yet native on the mactels.

One of the main things I use my powerbook for, besides basic daily use, is for recording. I am still using Garageband from iLife 05, and I have problems with it freezing up while in the middle of recording songs and such. I was hoping that the 2.16 MBP would possibly remedy this to a certain degree. Thoughts on that?

I would suspect you'd get better results with more RAM. I have the 1.67 17" Pbk with 2 gigs, and it seems extremely fast to me. I think if you're used to the 17" screen, you might not like the 15" -- you should borrow one for a while and see before committing yourself.

I have the same PB G4 and IMO it is a sweet laptop. Keep the G4 until you have some really important app you need more power to run (in my case it is Aperture). Certainly at least 1 GB additional RAM is important if you keep the G4; 512 MB RAM is not reasonable. Try to find a PB with at least 1.5 GB RAM that you can test your important apps on, or just add a 1 GB stick and see what happens.
