Macmall has the 13.3'' MacBook 1.83GHz for $994 after a $100 rebate. Is this the lowest price I'll find or will it get lower during the holidays? I bought my iMac in Sept, 2005 and received a student discount along with a free iPod after rebate but I'm no longer a student.
Can someone tell me where I can get the best price? Thanks.

Let's start with putting your question in the MacBook forum, not the MacBook PRO forum...

ummmm.. maybe hold off for a little while.... as im typng this messge "Apple Store" is down for maintenance.... possibly a major product update.... maybe a new macbook.... fingers crossed.
thats why i came to the macbook forum to see if anyone has chimed in with their thoughts on what the new update is...
so if a new macbook comes out then you may get a significantly reduced price on the macbooks you were looking at.

It's out, and it looks like the only significant differences are: Core 2 Duo processors (same clock speeds as before), 1 GB RAM standard, dual-layer capability on the SuperDrive models, and higher HD capacity on the SuperDrive models.

So do you think Apple will reduce the price of the current macbook to move inventory for the C2D macbooks?

And the 2 GHz models have 4 MB of L2 cache.

This is strange. The new MacBooks are considerably more expensive than the old ones on the Norwegian store - the middle model is up about 80 pounds / 120 dollars!
Are people saying that US and UK versions have become cheaper, while (for instance) Norwegian ones have become more expensive?

You might want to avoid Macmall; they don't take anything back that they have sold and I have heard some horror stories about dealings with them. Amazon offer $100+ rebates on MacBooks they sell.
