Macworld: First Look: Benchmarks: MacBooks see a modest Core 2 Duo boost

"One question remains from these results: With the two 2GHz MacBooks sharing so many specifications, why are their test numbers so different? The two systems were neck and neck in the vast majority of our tests, but just like the last time we tested MacBooks, we found that subtle hard-drive differences can affect the final numbers. The white 2GHz MacBook uses a 80GB Fujitsu drive while the black MacBook uses a 120GB Toshiba model. And while both spin at 5,400 rpm, we found the white’s Fujitsu drive helped that system turn in 5.5-percent faster Zip Archive results and 10-percent faster results in the iPhoto file import test."

I believe this is the same 120GB drive in the new MacBook Pros (MacBooks Pro?), with similar subtle slowdowns related to the hard drive "upgrade" compared to the older Core Duo machines. It makes me wish I could get a BlackBook with the WhiteBook's 80GB drive and $200 lower price! It's curious that for all models, Apple charges $175 more for the 80GB to 120GB "upgrade", which seems excessive just for another 40GB. The difference between the 60GB and 80GB drives is only $50!

Nope, my C2D MBP has a 5400 rpm 120 GB HD and it's from Hitachi, not Toshiba.

yeah, I've got the Toshiba drive. It's bound to be slower based on it's more capacity, more space to scan..etc... I don't notice any noticable change in performance, but then again, I need 120gb. I'm a PC tech who has bootcamp xp AND Parallels installed. Yeah... sux the rox i know.

Anyways, yeah, it seems like its going to work for me.
