Just got this hard drive for my macbook and it's not working... Travelstar 5K160

I put in the install disk and it gets to the point where you have to select the hard drive and nothing comes up.. i've waited a few minutes for it to load, but it never does.

is this the right hard drive for it? or any suggestions..

you need to use disk utility to partition the drive before the installer will see it

You can access the disk utility from one of the menus at the top during the OS install. ALSO, make sure when you partition the disk, select options and choose GUID partition table. That's the type of partition table you need for an intel mac to boot off the drive.

Also make sure you installed the HDD correctly. I accidently put mine in upside-down. Yes, it is possible to put it in incorrectly and still close the case and put the battery back in.
