What do you mean you replaced the disc player with a new one? What disc player is in there now? Sounds like the disc player you newly installed isn't compatible or is defective.

odd thing is its an apple part and its behaving exactly as the old one did, no changes whatsoever, disc goes in, fiddles around (doesn't spin up to speed) and then is regurgitated some minutes later. i think I fitted it correctly (no tech skills but its only one lead) and it is a genuine part. ps thanks for responding

its as if the computer doesn't know it has a disc, nothing on desktop, nothing in any disc related programme

I've had the same thing happening to me .... Apple wants me to send it in for repair/replacement which I'll probably do. I'm wondering if it has to do with the last system updates or iTunes update. My system hasn't been quite the same since installing them.

The problem I have is that I can't do a reinstall of an earlier version of the OS to test this out ... HAH! No drive to load the DVD :-)

well, it's all covered by my Applecare package, it's just that I need to finish off this job before I send it in for replacement.

PCs? NEVER!
