My MB with the screen turned down to the max and surfing, watching CNN videos gets around 4hrs and 30 min.
My MBP is getting 3:40 tops with the same settings except I also turn off the keyboard back light.
The kicker is my old iBook that the girl friend uses gets 6 hrs when set the same way.

I really hope Apple decides to make a 12" iBook or Powerbook replacement.

This is for the MBP 2.33 with 2gb ram and 120 gb HD:

If you turn the display way down and turn the keyboard light off and do absolutely nothing, the battery life is a little over 4 hours.

However, if used under (my) real world conditions, the battery life is abysmal at best: less than 2 hours (running FCP/AE) - of course turning the display up to see what you're doing brings battery life down further than that. Comparitively, playing Redline (which fits nicely into 2gb ram) lasts about 2.5 hours.

There is a third party app (CoolBook) that allows voltage settings to be changed - people are reporting better performance all around AND extended battery life.

But why in the 21st century we're still dealing with batteries like this is beyond me.
