Aww man, am I "mildly" annoyed...

I'd JUST got my 15" MBP C2D 2.33 w/ 200GB HDD yesterday. Choirs of Angels were heard miles away as I took hold of the machine. Heavenly bells were ringing in my ears as I drove back to work and powered up my new hotness. The start up chime was like coming across a babbling brook after a hard slog walking in a forest..

It was after mucking around in the sweet sweet GUI of OSX that I discovered that the machine wouldn't recognise the battery. It wouldn't even power up without the magsafe.

Funnily enough, after disconnecting the magsafe, it would work off the battery. However, it would still say "no battries installed". No amount of resetting the PMU or SMC did anything.

After googling the intarweb, most of the forums stated that is was a battery problem and a swapsies shouldn't be too hard to organise. OK, the babbling brook turned out to be a tepid stream but no matter, my problem would be solved tomorrow.

Upon trudging into NextByte at Baulkham Hills (Australian Retailer..) we got a spare battery from a demo machine to try it out...

Thats when the Angelic Choir decided I wasn't paying enough for their services ...

It wouldn't start up even with the new battery...

Oh Boy am I miffed.

Granted it's not NextByte's fault so to my credit (Damn You Manufacturing!!), I didn't go off at them. The Poo And it's not the first time this has happened to me. Granted the last time this happened to me, I had bought an Amiga 500. Which probably means I'm about due anyway. Damn You Karma..

So I had to book it in since they didn't have any custom ones with 200GB drives. The reason they said they couldn't swap the HDD over with another stock one was because it wouldn't screw up my warranty with apple and it was APPLE that had to give me a new one. The good thing is that it's been booked on priority. The bad thing is that they need all the contents so I have so drive back tomorrow with its box and bits and they guy won't be picking it up until tomorrow.

Another good thing is that I'll get to open yet ANOTHER apple box. Whee..

Oh well.. That's my story anyway

Why not call Apple direct? They should handle your warranty claim.

Yeah.. nah. I called them up and they said I need to take it back to the store. They only handle the DOAs for AppleStore purchases. Plus since it's a BTO machine, the need to build a new one for me so it's still gonna take a while.

Tell you what, it's a mixed bag calling up apple helpdesk. I got someone devoid of ALL personality the first time I called up. Second time, thankfully, was MUCH better.

I wonder if I can get any freebies because of this..
