Well the time has come for me to move away for college. I've had my iMac since the beginning of the Intels, and it's served me well. But with the improving specs of the MacBooks and the much needed portability, an iMac just won't cut it.
I'm selling my iMac for $2100 CAD to a good friend. It's a 2 Ghz Core Duo 20" with 2 GB of ram and a 256 MB video card. I'm also giving them a USB modem, Windows XP Home, and all of the original packaging, stickers, etc. I think it's a pretty good deal. I priced out all of that brand new and they end up saving close to six hundred dollars.
In return I'm getting a 2 Ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook (white) with 2 GB of ram, AppleCare, and the STM Alley shoulder bag (comes to $2109 CAD)
I hardly play games anymore, so I have no real need or desire for a fancy graphics card. And besides my music and photos, I don't take up alot of hard drive space. So the 80 GB is fine. I'm looking forward to the "slight" speed boost, and the portability of course
Useless post, I know. I'm just excited and felt the need to share. I've wanted a laptop for a very long time.
Just a quick question, however: Does anybody know the current week of the MacBooks?

Congrats, you'll love the MacBook. Maybe in the future you can pick up an external display, keyboard, and mouse since those are the things you will miss the most. The display on the MacBook is very bright and colorful but not quite as saturated as the iMac's.
Anyway, be sure to record your temps and post them for us to see. Mine are 55 degrees C idle and top out at 85 degrees C under full load, but I believe this is a bit high.

I am making the same switch. 20" iMac 2.0 Ghz w/2GB to a Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz Macbook.
The first thing I had to do was upgrade the hard drive from the 80GB to a 160GB. I think I can live with 160GB built-in and external drives for less frequently used data.
I definitely miss the 20" display, but absolutely love the portability. I used to have a 12" Powerbook and really missed it.

I actually already have an external display, and I have the bluetooth Apple keyboard and mighty mouse, so I'm all set. It's going to be weird going from a huge setup with wall mounts and what not ... to just a laptop and another screen sitting on a desk. Haha. I take alot of pride in making sure my setup looks nice, but it seems like that'll be a little harder with a laptop.
55ºC isn't right. Are you positive it's centigrade you're reading and not fahrenheit? What utility are you using to monitor this? Some of them are really innaccurate. However, the highest I've ever gotten a computer of my own running was maybe 60ºC. It was a PC, with an AMD processor that was used primarily for gaming. And believe me, the games I was running were well beyond it's capabilities, so it was constantly being taxed.
Keep me up to date with your readings, and try out some other temp programs. I'm curious to know a little more about this.

I ordered my MacBook last night I was surprised to see that first thing this morning, my STM Alley bag had already shipped! Pretty quick
I live in Canada, so it usually takes a while for Apple products to get here. Hopefully I'll have it next week though. I rearranged my desk, so now my giant Spongebob is waiting for the laptop
