Ive had my macbook for a bit over a week and have been buring some cd's.

It takes about 7 to 8 minutes to burn a cd in tunes. shouldnt this be faster? say 5 minutes?

That sounds not too bad - the speed quoted is a maximum, and it probably verifies as well.

It takes me over half an hour to burn a full DVD. Eight minutes for a CD isn't too bad. If you want faster burn times, you might consider looking into an external writer. Apple's drives, while reliable and very capable, aren't very fast.

Laptop drives are never as fast as full sized drives.

Get a bare 16X DL Pioneer burner from newegg.com and put it in a firewire case--it'll be incredibly faster, especially on the DVD burning side. Just keep it wherever you're most likely to be burning.

Use the internal burner when you're on the road or at a remote location.

I can imagine. I've only ever used my 8x SuperDrive. The MacBooks are 6x aren't they?
